BODY WRAP (KOBE, JULY 2025 | ARTIST IN RESIDENCE KOBE, KITANO THE MAGNET)
in search of comfort and safery through different wrapping techniques.
the project has been a result of a month-long residency in kobe (airk)
that aimed on exploring types of interactions influencing human
mentality (in context of constant relocation, new environment and
foreigninty). through the research, three key aspects were identified
that curate personal comfort and safety: human-nonhuman (between
a person and an object, focusing on sentimentality and memories),
inter-human (between people, aiming at physical connection, intimacy,
active angagement, and growth) inner-human (personal way to deal
with anxiety, control of thoughts, mindfulness). these three patterns
shape people, having to become dependent on being touched, listened
to, observed and wrapped in order to feel secure in a foreign space.
body wrap showcases three video performances intersecting with each
other around the space (each being a representation of above ways to
build comfort). over 20 garments worn by performers have been hand-
stitched, as part of a wrapping technique that is therapeutic and
calming to the artist, as well as holds tribute to manual labourers.
sound footage originates from recorded patterns found in kobe as part
of meditative processes bringing peace in the space.
