SIGN OF LOSS
(EINDHOVEN, JUN 2024 | DESIGN COURSE, DAE)

the process of standardisation set in western society have influenced
the way people define ‘the norm' around them. what the mass does,
what the mass is. what the mass wants to become, is 'the norm'. the
world has been constructed around these norms, starting with a specific
kind of people shown on advertisements, ending with accessibility
limitations. this project focuses on the exclusion of deaf people in public
institutions and infrastructures as a representation of all discrimination
'the norm' portrays.

sign of loss is a dystopic silent video that flips the roles over. the story
is being guided by a sign language user , without the sound, without
subtitles. if a viewer cannot understand the  sign language, they can't
understand the story. its goal is to emphasise the exclusion of 'non fully
abled body people' from the public, create the same experience
/environment for people who are considered the norm' and who are
usually the ones that exclude the rest. made with collaboration with
caroline bouraline, stella boué chalom and lena stec-kamińska.
