TURNTABLE 转盘 (CHENGDU, SEP-NOV 2025 | NONGYUAN INTERNATIONAL ART VILLAGE / WOULD YOU LOVE SEOUL /
XIHUA UNIVERSITY)
a ritual in honour of circularity emphasising the infinite life of humans,
objects and materials. it showcases the continuous process of energy
exchange in space and the never ending cycle of life. it embodies
symbiosis and relation between all matter.
the installation consists of multiple works of the collective, each
embodying object immortality. the central piece, a rotating object, has
been made using upcycled steel stools, bike wheel, hdpe tyveck waste
and hdpe milling powder inspired by turn tables used as a collective
tool for food sharing and interaction.
it was a main focus in the ritual of circularity, which curated in a
collaboration between would you love seoul, nongyuan international
art village and xihua university, arts and design, performance and dance
colleges.
the performance is an emphasis that there is no ending. matter, energy,
sound will coexist eternally. 440hz (a, la) shares the same frequency as
wu (羽) in the bashu scale, exploring the point where the human voice
can transform into physical energy. it questions whether sound, beyond
mere music, can act as a force that moves objects and spaces—and
whether such energy can disturb the boundaries of reality and sustain
a continuous cycle of resonance.
the ritual features a collection of clothes made from waste banners
from nongyuan art village bound by heatpressing and connected by steel
rings. the set embodies the past in the present digitally archived for the
future. past life of objects ought to be acknowledged and honoured, just
as people’s life is.
the installation is finalised with a contextual observation of the
relationship between: people and objects, people and people, people and
the environment. three natures of presence coexisting in time and space
during the art residency in between chengdu and seoul.
